Pellston Regional Airport Code

Pellston Regional Airport was established in 1941 as a military airfield. Initially, the airport was used for training purposes by the United States Army Air Corps. After World War II, the airport was decommissioned and returned to civilian use in 1948. The first commercial flight at Pellston Regional Airport took off on December 1, 1953 with service provided by North Central Airlines. In the early 1960s, a new terminal building and control tower were constructed to handle the increasing number of passengers.

In 1971, the airport was renamed Pellston Regional Airport and began to see more commercial flights from major airlines such as Northwest Airlines and Delta Air Lines. In 1997, a new terminal building was opened which included an expanded waiting area and baggage claim area. This new terminal also featured modern amenities such as self-service kiosks and ticketing machines. In addition to the terminal building, a new 4,000-foot runway was constructed in 2001 which allowed for larger aircrafts to use the airport.

In recent years, Pellston Regional Airport has continued its growth with more airlines offering flights from Detroit Metro Airport as well as Chicago O’Hare International Airport. The airport also serves as a hub for seasonal charter flights to various destinations around Michigan such as Mackinac Island and Traverse City. Currently, there are nine airlines that offer services from Pellston Regional Airport including Delta Air Lines, American Airlines, United Airlines, Allegiant Air and Sun Country Airlines among others. With its convenient location near Petoskey State Park and other tourist attractions in Northern Michigan, it is no surprise that Pellston Regional Airport continues to be an important part of northern Michigan’s transportation network.
