Overview

North Carolina is located in the southeastern part of the USA on the Atlantic Ocean and is one of the southern states. North Carolina borders Virginia to the north, Tennessee to the east, and South Carolina and Georgia to the south. To the east, the state is bordered by its coast to the Atlantic Ocean.

From the 1650s, the area was settled by the English, with most of the settlers coming from the colonies of Bermuda, New England (today’s Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Vermont) and Virginia.
