New Hampshire is a state in New England and is located in the far northeast of the United States. It was named after the English county of Hampshire. New Hampshire was one of the first 13 states in the Union and has been the ninth member of the United States since June 21, 1788. The area of what is now New Hampshire was settled by European settlers from 1623. Because of the many quarries that occur, the area is also called “granite state” and the state’s motto is “Live free or die”).
The state of New Hampshire covers an area of 24,216 km² – with around 1.3 million inhabitants. The capital of New Hampshire is Concord with approximately 43,000 inhabitants. In the east, New Hampshire borders with the state of Maine, in the south, New Hampshire borders with the state of Massachusetts and in the west with Vermont. Other structural highlights of the city are the State House, the City Hall, the Eagle Hotel and the Old Library. Visitors will also find the University of New Hampshire School of Law, the only law school in New Hampshire, and the Granite State Symphony Orchestra.
Dover
The city of Dover has approximately 30,000 residents and is located in the southeast of the state near the Atlantic coast. Dover is the largest city in the state located on the Atlantic coast. The city was founded in 1623 and is therefore older than the USA. The city is considered the seventh oldest in the country. Today there are still some historical buildings here.
Manchester
The city of Manchester has approximately 110,000 inhabitants and is the largest city in the state of New Hampshire. It is also the largest city in northern New England and the largest in the United States. Manchester is located in the south of New Hampshire and was founded in 1751.
