Aspen-Pitkin County Airport Code

Aspen-Pitkin County, located in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains, has been a popular destination since the 1800s. The area was first explored by prospectors who discovered silver and gold deposits in the area. Soon after, a small mining town was established to take advantage of the mineral wealth in the region. By 1883, Aspen had become one of the largest silver-producing areas in Colorado and its population had grown to over 10,000 people. In 1893, however, the silver market crashed and Aspen’s population dropped drastically. In the early 1900s, Aspen began to reinvent itself as a tourist destination for outdoor recreation such as skiing and hiking. During this time, multiple ski resorts were built in the area including Aspen Mountain and Snowmass Ski Area. This new industry helped drive growth for Pitkin County as visitors flocked to experience its majestic mountain scenery and world-class skiing. Over time, Aspen-Pitkin County has grown into an exclusive resort destination that attracts visitors from around the world looking for luxury accommodations and unique culinary experiences amidst stunning natural beauty.
