Albany International Airport Code

Albany International Airport, located in Colonie, New York, has a long and interesting history. It began as an airfield in the 1920s, serving as a hub for private aircraft. Over the years it has grown significantly to become one of the most important airports in the region. In 1940, construction began on an airport terminal building that would eventually become Albany International Airport. The airport was officially dedicated in 1941 and served as a major hub for military aircraft during World War II. After the war, commercial aviation began to take off and Albany International Airport quickly became one of the busiest airports in upstate New York. In 1949, the airport opened its first control tower and soon after began offering international service to Canada and Mexico via Trans-Canada Airlines (now Air Canada) and Aeromexico (now Aeromar). Over time, more airlines have been added to provide passengers with greater choice when flying into or out of Albany International Airport. In recent years, new facilities have been added including a new terminal building which opened in 2017; this is currently home to several airlines offering domestic flights as well as international flights to destinations such as Europe, Canada and Mexico. The airport has also seen significant investment with new runways being added over the years along with improved taxiways and lighting systems that help make Albany International Airport one of the most efficient airports around today.
